Thousands of people laced up their hiking shoes this weekend and got stuck in for Barrow’s signature event of the year.

This year’s Keswick to Barrow and Coniston to Barrow walker were the biggest ever, with a record breaking 3,202 walkers and runners taking part in both walks.

This year was the 53rd anniversary of the K2B and saw more people than ever from across South Cumbria taking part in the walk.

As always, it was another fantastic day with so many people getting stuck in to complete the walks and raise money for some great causes.

The roads around Keswick and Barrow were buzzing with excitement as residents cheered the walkers on.

Almost 1,500 people took on the 40 mile hike and more than 1,800 took part in the C2B.

Jamie Schofield was the first person to cross the finish line.

He completed the K2B in the quickest time, making it to Barrow in just four hours 47 minutes, spurred on by the cheers of encouragement from people as he made in to Hawcoat Park.

He said he was ‘over the moon’ to be the first to finish.

Mhairi Gass was the first woman to finish the K2B, finishing in just six hours 13 minutes.

The first to finish the C2B was Mark Bonner, running as part of the St Marys Hospice Heroes. He finished the route in two hours 19 minutes.

Harvey Cooper and Niamh McNally were the first male and female juniors to finish.

They completed the route in seven hours five minutes and seven hours 47 minutes respectively.

The K2B committee are incredibly proud of how this year’s walks went.

Mark Curwen, of the K2B Committee said: "Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this year’s K2B and C2B the biggest ever.

"The committee are so proud of every single Walker who went out there and gave it their all.

"And to all of the volunteers, stewards, helpers who make the walks possible, thank you.

To the sponsors, big and small, your support is invaluable'

"To everyone who came out to show their support on the day, you make a huge difference to each Walker and help to keep them going to the finish.

"Thanks to you all we are able to help hundreds of great causes every year.

Congratulations to all of you and we look forward to seeing you again next year."
