LAST WEEK, the North West Air Ambulance Charity attended 51 calls within the northwest region.

Out of those 51 calls, seven were incidents within Cumbria.

As well as its own area, the charity was also called to three out-of-area incidents, which made a total of 54 calls last week alone.

Kate Waller, press and marketing manager said: "The team are always working hard.

"We have one helicopter based in Blackpool and another two at Barton Aerodrome and City Airport & Heliport, in Manchester.

"To keep the charity running we have to raise £9.5million each year to keep us in the air.

"We have 11 charity shops throughout the north west which help with day-to-day running, but the main financial help comes from public and corporate donations."
