IMPROVEMENTS to bus services on the Cartmel Peninsula were on the agenda at a meeting this week.

South Lakes MP Tim Farron pushed the case for a later service back from Kendal – with the last bus to Cark and Cartmel currently leaving at 1.30pm – and encouraged Stagecoach to integrate their timetable with the new rail timetable for the Furness Line.

The meeting came after local campaigner Patricia Mills carried out a survey of over 100 bus users to find out their concerns with the current services.

Mr Farron said: “With more and more visitors coming to the South Lakes as a result of World Heritage Site status, it’s massively important in our bid to tackle global warming that we get people off the roads in their cars and on a reliable local bus service."

Mrs Mills and the Managing Director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, Mark Whitlocks, were also in attendance, as was local councillors Eric Morrell and Gill Gardner.

"I’m grateful to Mr Whitlocks for the meeting looking at how we can get a better service for local residents," added Mr Farron.
