THERE was an opportunity for youngsters to have fun with science and technology back in 2000 at a major event held in the Drill Hall at Ulverston.
Pupils from several schools were invited to experience hands-on scientific experiments.
There was a hair-raising experiment with a Van de Graaff generator which builds up static electricity by friction
Pupils could also make waves with a metal spring, try out a giant bubble experiment or explore the miniature world of plant structures under a microscope.
The Mail, on Saturday, March 28, noted: "Fun Science is a travelling roadshow of science and technology activities organised by the British Association for the Advancement of Science with contributions from Lancaster University, the University College of St Martin and the Furness Astronomical Society and supported by Glaxo Wellcome.
"It is held as part of National Science Week 2000, the national week for science, engineering and technology.
"Primary school children from all over the region will be attending the events."
