THE latest person to receive The Mail’s Bouquet of the Week is a school supervisor who is retiring after 15 years of service.

Andrea Tooze, from St Paul’s C of E Junior School in Barrow, was nominated for the flowers by school administrator Marie Last.

Marie said Andrea, a midday supervisor, was well-liked by pupils and will be missed by the school.

She said: “We would like to nominate our midday supervisor Andrea Tooze who has worked for us for 15 years and is now retiring.

“The children love her and she gets on so well with everyone.

“She has been a loyal member of staff for 15 years and we will be sad to see her go.”

Andrea was given a send-off from the school in its Friday “Praise Assembly”, in which pupils gathered to deliver their best wishes to her.

Headteacher Ruth Webster said Andrea would be greatly missed by the school and its pupils.

She said: “It was a lovely fitting ending to someone’s career here. She has been such a loyal member of staff for 15 years, which is tremendous.

“She was a very constant companion to children at lunchtime.

“She was very firm but fair and kind and the children wanted to please her by behaving well.

“So lunchtimes were very happy times and ran smoothly.”

Ruth described Andrea as “steadfast, thoughtful and very intuitive”.

“She would spot if a child was a bit under the weather or worried about something,” Ruth said.

“She has been very good at spotting that and feeding that back.”

Andrea worked as a midday supervisor for the full 15 years and was said to have been a long-time friend of the school, with both her children having attended it. She has also helped out volunteering for special events.

Ruth said: “We are a small school with a big heart and she is very much part of that family.

“The children have really enjoyed having her as part of their school life. They are really fond of her because she is a caring and compassionate person.”
