A MOTHER has bumped up security at her house after she claims two invaders tried to kidnap her son.

Zoe Barnard, 27, of Marsden Street, Barrow, said she feared for her three children’s lives after at least two burglars entered her home before being disturbed.

Although nothing was stolen, Miss Barnard said her seven-year-old son was taken from his bed shortly after 11.30pm before being dropped on the upper landing by one of the invaders.

Miss Barnard said: “My partner and I were asleep on the couch downstairs while my three children were asleep in bed.

“We had come home from a meal that evening.

“I woke up in the dark after hearing the front door open.

“I looked up to find a stranger stood in front of me.

“It was a tall man with dark hair.

“I was frightened for my children’s lives because the person could have had a knife.

“I then heard a man’s voice coming from upstairs and then a huge thud at the top of the stairs.

“My partner woke up and chased the two invaders, while I found my son Jenson shaken and confused.”

After chasing the would-be burglars, her partner Leigh O’Donnell, 32, found some of the family’s clothes on the pavement along with a wage slip, which he said were originally in the kitchen.

Miss Barnard spoke of her anguish and guilt of leaving the front door unlocked.

“If anything had of happened it would have been my fault,” she said.

“I’ve had my parenting skills questioned and I’ve been threatened to have my windows smashed.”

She said she and her partner fell into a deep sleep after working all day and returning home from an evening meal out.

The family have since invested in a security alarm.

The mum-of-three issued a warning to others.

“Remain calm and don’t attack - you don’t know if they have a weapon,” she said.

A police spokesman confirmed they had been made aware of the incident .

He added: "The incident involved at least two people who entered the property before being disturbed by the occupants.

"Investigations are ongoing."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
