A MOTORCYCLIST was involved in a collision that shut a major Barrow road for over an hour.

At around 5pm today Park Road was blocked between Bank Lane and Ormsgill Lane after a collision involving one motorbike.

Paramedics alongside firefighters and police officers all attended the scene.

It is not yet clear how the incident occurred.

The motorcyclist was treated by paramedics with support from firefighters and police officers.

Two fire engines, several ambulances and police cars were all at the scene.

It appeared that the other emergency staff were helping to secure the casualty for at least 45 minutes.

The casualty was put into an ambulance at around 6.30pm.

Many residents looked on concerned for the individual involved.

One resident said: “I hope they’re OK.”

Another resident said: “At around 5pm I heard what sounded like gun shots but when I came out it was actually a motorbike that had crashed.

“The motorcyclist was being encouraged by paramedics to just stay still.

“I also over heard the motorcyclist say he couldn’t remember what had happened.

“The emergency services have been with them for a while and as far as I am aware only the motorcyclist was involved in the crash - I hope they recover and are OK.”
