AN INVENTIVE take on one of Shakespeare's best known tragedies is heading for Barrow.

Innovative theatre company Three Inch Fools is staging a modern reimagining of one of the Bard's best, Macbeth, within the atmospheric galleries of the town's Dock Museum on June 27.

Three Inch Fools was founded in 2015 by Cumbrian brothers James and Stephen Hyde with the aim of bringing physically charged and musically driven productions of Shakespeare’s plays to a host of unique and historical locations across the UK.

A contemporary take on the traditional touring troupe and highly regarded for their fast-paced and musically driven approach to Shakespeare, The Fools use a pop-up stage, musical instruments, costumes and props.

Co-founder and producer James says that Macbeth will be "gripping and entertaining" and "not dry or heavy."

The trailblazing troupe will perform the Shakespeare production with five actors: Samuel Freeman, Hazel Monaghan, Samuel Nunes de Souza, Emily Waters and Isobel Witcomb.

The Barrow show is part of the company's UK tour staging Macbeth plus at several other venues, Much Ado About Nothing.

Bringing stories to life through movement and music, the Fools aim to engage those already familiar with Shakespeare’s work and to reach out to those who have yet to discover the finer points of the Bard's musings.

During the tour, the performers will be taking on more than 40 characters, playing nigh on 20 different musical instruments, visiting 100 venues across 40 counties across Scotland, England and Wales.

For each production co-founder Stephen composes original music that shifts between folk and new world to classical, rock, pop, opera and everywhere in between.

During the past five years the company has performed both indoors and outdoors across the UK in castles, churches, stately homes, abbeys, gardens, arts centres, village greens, royal residences, museums, National Trust properties, a seaside pier, an old fire station and, apparently, a garlic farm.

"Performing at such a wide variety of different venues means that we get to meet audiences from all over the country, and with more and more people coming each year we are proud to be a word of mouth hit," adds James. "It’s lovely to see ever more families and younger audience members in the crowd."
