A YOUNG goose was rescued by a Barrow family after it was nearly ripped apart by three gulls.

Now called Gordy, the gosling had a lucky escape after Hannah Blanshard and her family rescued the animal from Ormsgill Reservoir.

Miss Blanshard described how they first saw Gordy while on a walk when they saw the creature being torn apart between the birds.

“We quickly moved the gulls away and originally we thought the poor little thing had broken its neck and we weren’t sure whether it would survive," she said.

“We took it home and nursed it, keeping it in our bath.

“Remarkably he is now fine and after talking to Bardsea Bird Sanctuary they said it is likely that Gordy’s parents will accept him back providing we can find his family.”

Miss Blanshard’s daughters Amaya, Emelise and Dakota were also keen to show Gordy to their classmates before taking the bird back to the reservoir.

Amaya is in Year Two and Emelise is in nursery.

All the children at St Pius X Catholic School were really pleased to see Gordy fighting fit and healthy.

The family all then planned to attempt to find Gordy’s family after school.

If they are unable to find the creatures family they will take Gordy back to Bardsea Bird Sanctuary who will then take care of the creature.
