Children from a Barrow school went on a special day trip this week.

Children from Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School spent the day in Ulverston.

They got the chance to explore Ford Park and play on the adventure playground.

They were also able to walk up the Hoad to see The John Barrow Monument.

Staff at Ormsgill Primary took the children out in an effort to give them some inspiration to write their word shape poetry.

Laura Reid, Year Two Teacher at Ormsgill Primary spoke about the children's day out in Ulverston.

She said: "We made the decision that we wanted to get the kids out and about."

She explained the children had been working on their vocabulary and still needed to learn about shape poetry, so they went to Ulverston find things the children could write about.

Mrs Reid went on to talk about how much the children enjoyed the day out.

She said: "The children absolutely loved it.

"It was a pleasure to take them out for the day.

"They were talking about how much they enjoyed themselves.

"It was a fabulous day.

"We try to get them out and about as much as we can in order to broaden their experiences."

The Sir John Barrow Monument is a 100ft tall grade two listed building.
