A POPULAR Barrow pub has reopened its doors after a three-month closure.

The Derby Inn on Dalton Road, Barrow is opening its doors once again after undergoing an extensive revamp.

News of the pub's closure was first announced by Jon Wheeler, one of directors of Five (UK) Ltd, which owns the Derby, in January earlier this year.

Since closing, the Derby has underwent a transformation, both internally and externally.

The updated, contemporary sign matches the stylish furniture design found on the inside.

News of the pub's re-opening was announced via social media, with well-wishers expressing their excitement and support.

Mike Fallon, chairman of Barrow Licensed Victuallers Association, backs any business which champions local trade.

He said: "The more pubs open the better.

"I wish them all the best, I imagine it will be very successful as people often go to these places.

"It's great to see local businesses run by Barrovians, we need to keep trade local.

"People appreciate seeing local people running our businesses, it's great for the town."

Branch chairman of Furness’ Campaign for Real Ale, Dave Stubbins, also expressed his support of the Derby's re-launch.

He said: "I was absolutely delighted when I heard the news.

"It's always saddening to see a local business close so I was very pleased to hear this was re-opening after a few months.

"It also provides an extra choice for people.

"It's very sad to see people's choices limited so it's great to see more variety in the town."

The pub is also continuing its tradition of showcasing live music on a regular basis.

A spokesman confirmed the popular music performances would continue with acoustic acts and bands coming soon.

He said: "As we all know, live music is a massive part of the Derby and this will carry on.

"For the first few weeks we will be hosting acoustic acts and bands will follow.

"Thanks for your support."
