The redevelopment of a major Ulverston landmark has reached a key milestone.

The renovation of Ulverston's Stone Cross Mansion has accomplished a major feat, with the installation of a replica staircase.

Housebuilder Charles Church has undertaken the transformation of the derelict building into 19 luxury apartments, whilst also keeping a close eye on the restoration of the historic house.

The development includes 45 four and five bedroom executive homes priced from £314,995 as well as 19 two and three bedroom apartments and one gatehouse, which will be released for sale later in the year.

Andrew Clarke, project manager for Charles Church Lancashire, said: "Stone Cross Mansion is such an important local landmark and we are honoured to be bringing the house and its grounds back to life.

"The original staircase in the building was removed several years ago, but we collaborated with specialist joiners to create a replacement following its design.

"As a central feature in the magnificent hallway, the new staircase is simply stunning."

At a cost of more than four million pounds, the project has also required the team to refurbish every part of the Grade II Listed building, from its exterior stonework to the elaborate panelling of its grand interior.

The marketing suite and showhome are open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 6pm.
