Ulverston Leisure Centre hosted a range of activities during the Easter Holiday, with the most unique amongst them being a dance camp.

Demand was pretty high to be one of the 14 children involved, with the group intentionally smaller than the other activities so instructor Louise Walton had the chance to really guide each that were involved.

The kids were aged seven and above and were taken through a range of exercises over a four-hour session, during which they learned to put together their own routine.

Active communities coordinator at the centre Hannah Paling said: “They sometimes perform to their parents, though I’m not sure if they did this time.

“The camp was full both weeks - we had two lots over Easter - so it was was really good.

“Obviously we didn’t have loads, but when you’re doing just dancing and you’re trying to teach them routines and that, I think that’s a good number - if we’d had any more I think we’d have struggled.”

The centre held the sessions at their indoor tennis courts and both boys and girls were involved at both weeks, with the smiling faces a clear indication of how much the kids enjoyed them.

Paling said: “They do a mixture of stuff and some other games as well.

"Louise has her own routine with Dance Active, where she knows a lot of the kids anyway.

“There’s a bit of a variation in what she does.

“It’s not too advanced and Louise could change things up if she needed to or she might give more attention to the kids who maybe aren’t as confident as the others.

“She had some girls helping, actually, in both the weeks, who are a little bit older and go to her dance school, so that was good to see.

“I don’t know if they used to come when they were younger, but there were three of them who were helping out as ‘group leaders,’ so that was good.”

The centre is set to be busy again during May half-term, with activity days being held on Tuesday and Wednesday and days devoted to football and tennis on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
