HUNDREDS of people turned out in 1997 to enjoy an action-packed fun day to raise funds towards an adventure playground.
The Mail, on September 1, noted: "Around 400 people gave their support to the day organised by the newly-formed Ormsgill Estate Residents' Committee and held at the local community centre.
"The Prince's Trust has offered to provide funding towards an adventure playground in Ormsgill as long as the residents' committee plays its part by raising cash for the project.
"They have already raised more than £600 and the fun day boosted funds by another £1,000."
Vice-chairman Trevor Gill said: "It was a great day and the community turned out to give it good support."
Attractions included fancy dress and face painting, raffles and tombolas and a residents' committee comedy haircuts stall.
Among the highlights were tug-of-war competitions which saw the Ormsgill Kids defeating the Residents' Committee.
