A RACECOURSE which lies just metres away from one of the UK’s culinary capitals has launched its first ever Ladies Night in conjunction with The Mail.

Cartmel Racecourse will welcome thousands of people through its gates for the only evening meeting of its 2019 schedule which takes place on May 29.

While the event is open to all, ladies are being encouraged to join their friends and dress to the nines for an evening of fun and excitement.

There will be a special prize worth more than £1,000 for best-dressed lady, while racegoers will have the opportunity to spend the evening in the luxurious surroundings of Rogan at the Races, a pop-up glass-fronted restaurant set by the final furlong with Michelin-starred food served by chef Simon Rogan’s talented team.

Vanessa Sims, editor of The Mail, said: “We are really excited about this year’s Ladies Night sponsored by The Mail.

“We have a long-held relationship with Cartmel Racecourse and the team from The Mail have enjoyed many race days there over the years.

“We are particularly excited this year because we are a part of something new. With beautiful surroundings, great racing action on offer, the funfair, party tents and some amazing corporate hospitality options to take advantage of, it promises to be a fantastic night, and I for one cannot wait - in fact, I am already planning my outfit!”

Tickets for the newly-revamped Louis Roederer restaurant are selling well, while racegoers who want an extra special experience, or companies wishing to treat their staff or clients, are snapping up tickets for Rogan at the Races.

The first of seven races is expected to get under way at 5pm, with the last race reaching the final furlong around 8.30pm.

The usual funfair will be in full swing for youngsters to enjoy, while as ever, barbecues and picnickers are welcome.

There are nine meetings from May to August, with one of the biggest names in pop music taking to the stage on June 28 when Sir Cliff Richard plays one of just three UK gigs at the racecourse.

The gates of the racecourse open for the first time as the Whit holiday meeting gets under way on Saturday May 25. There is a subsequent meeting on Whit bank holiday Monday, the 27th, and then Ladies Night rolls around on the evening of May 29.
