South Cumbrian members of the Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Club lost a total of 347 stones in the past year at classes held in Barrow, Bowness, Dalton and Ulverston.
A semi-detached house at Piel View Grove, Barrow, was offered for sale at £75,000. A terraced house in Rodney Street, Barrow, was £64,950.
It was hoped that work would soon resume on repairs to the Ship Inn on Piel Island. Barrow Borough Council had found £200,000 or the £300,000 needed to complete the work and was in talks to find the rest.

Abbey Music Society presented Rose Marie at the Public Hall, facing Cornwallis Street, Barrow. The cast included Marie Worrall and Edward Fell.
