THE former open-air swimming pool on Grange promenade starred in this week’s episode of the hugely successful ITV drama The Bay.

The suspense drama, filmed around Morecambe Bay, has gripped TV audiences nationwide.

In episode four a major part of the series unfolds at the art-deco Grange Lido on the promenade.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) connected the dots to finally find missing teen Holly in one of the basements at the lido.

During filming a large number of police vehicles and actors in police uniforms were seen around the lido and on the promenade.

The six-part series is an original drama written by award-winning writer and playwright Daragh Carville (Being Human, The Smoke, Cherrybomb) and co-created by Richard Clark.

Mr Carville is also backing calls to restore the pool to its former glory.

“Grange Lido was a brilliant location to film at, but would be an even more brilliant location to take the kids for a swim”, he said.

The series stars Christie (The A Word, The Replacement) who plays Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong, a fierce and hard-working family liaison officer. Joining Christie are; Jonas Armstrong (Troy, Ripper Street), Tracie Bennett (Scott & Bailey, Coronation Street), Lindsey Coulson (Funny Cow, Bullet Proof) and Chanel Cresswell (This is England ’90, Murdered For Being Different).

Phil Bradby, chairman of Save Grange Lido Ltd, the community benefit society fundraising to restore the pool, said before the epiosde aired: “It's great that TV viewers from across the UK will be able to see the historic lido and the lovely views across Morecambe Bay.

“Other operating lidos across the country are very popular as film locations and we expect to bring in some extra revenue from filming once the pool is fully restored.”

Save Grange Lido is made up of a group of locals who are campaigning to re-open the pool, which has been derelict for 25 years. The group was formed in 2011 and in January 2019 formed a community benefit society.

Save Grange Lido plan to raise funds for the renovation of the Grade II listed pool and operate the facility without the need for council subsidy.

The Save Grange Lido Facebook page now has over 4,500 followers.
