MEMBERS of the esteemed Green Door art collective are heading to Grasmere Village Hall this week for their first group exhibition of the year, following in the footsteps of many an illustrious artist who has down the decades had their magical creations hung from its revered walls. The exhibition runs until Wednesday, April 10, open 10am-4.30pm, and includes a diverse range of 2D and 3D work from nigh on half of the group’s 110 members.

THE Artists and Craftmakers of Halecat House at Witherslack are staging an open studio weekend on April 13/14. The group of talented artisans include painter and sculptor Jessica Elleray, painter Fiona Clucas and three new members: sculptor Danny Clahane, potter Lara Clahane and painter Ben Mcloed. There will be work for sale, demonstrations and hands on activities for all ages. Abi and Tom`s plants will be also open. The event is open from 10.30am-5pm.

THE winner of the 2019 Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year is Poppy Cookson, a student at the University of Cumbria who presented a body of work exploring the relationships between humans and non-humans. Her work was chosen by a panel that included artist and director of Barrow's Art Gene, Maddi Nicholson. Twenty entries from the competition have been selected for an exhibition held at the Vallum Gallery, Institute of the Arts at the Brampton Road Campus of the University of Cumbria, which will be open until April 25.
