BOSSES at a guesthouse have asked planning bosses to officially consider it as a bed and breakfast.

Number19 Guest House in Dalton has applied to Barrow Council for a change of retrospective change of use.

The guesthouse, at Crooklands Brow, was formerly The Miners Arms pub and was bought by its current owners in 2012.

At that time “one or two” rooms were rented out as the building was used largely as a residential property.

The bed and breakfast now has five rooms available for guests.

Writing in support of the application, the owners outlined their plans.

They said: “We have been living in the property since 2015 and have been running the B&B since this date as our sole form of employment.

“We are a small B&B with five rooms and no alcohol is served as we are unlicensed.”

They said they enjoyed being part of the community and received no complaints of noise from neighbours, even though it sits in a residential area, playing up the B&B’s positive impact in the town.

They added: “Since 2015 we have welcomed guests both working and visiting the area.

"The B&B has brought lots of income to Dalton as people eat in local establishments and also visit local attractions such as the Safari Zoo.

“We are part of the community and have not received any complaints since our opening in 2015.

“We get along with our neighbours and they enjoy having us as a useful place for their families and friends to stay when visiting.

“Our check in times are limited to 4pm to 7pm in order for there to be no noise in the evenings.”

According to planning documents, neighbours have been notified as part of a public consultation.

Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School has also been notified as part of the planning process.

The consultation is due to end on April 5.

The plan will then be assessed by the council’s planning board.

After an officer’s report it will then be considered by councillors when it comes on the agenda at a future planning meeting.

All plans are also considered by members of Dalton Town Council.
