FAMILY and friends of a well-known Barrow DJ have donated a heartfelt sum to the hospital that provided such ‘excellent’ care before his death.

Stuart Salt was one of the areas most popular DJ’s spinning records for more than four decades and since his death in March 2018 his family and friends have been determined to keep his memory alive by raising thousands of pounds for Furness General Hospital.

After organising a 70s and 80s Disco night on March 1 at Manhattans Nightclub in Cavendish Street they raised an impressive £2,500 for the Oncology and Stroke units at FGH.

At the official presentation of the money family members and friends expressed how much the loss of Stuart continued to impact on them.

His wife Maureen said: “We all just miss him. He had such a good sense of humour and he was so well known and loved in the area.

“We just wanted to give something back to the people who provided such excellent care every single day.

“He had various health issues for a number of years and everyone here at Furness General Hospital has been brilliant.

“I think he would have been proud of all of us.”

Mr Salt is also deeply missed by his children Danielle, Janine, Kyle and Daniel.

Heidi Bowron, charity and membership co-ordinator for the Bay Hospitals Charity, said: “Maureen as well as Stuart's family and friends have very kindly organised the event in memory of Stuart who was well known in the area.

“They have raised an amazing amount for the hospital which provided such excellent care throughout his illnesses.”

Mr Salt's best friend and fellow DJ Ronald Rayner also paid tribute to his friend.

“He was one of the most known DJ’s in the area and an absolutely fantastic person.

“We all still feel his loss and miss him.

“The fundraising is part of keeping his memory alive and we will be hosting another event next year.

“I first met Stuart in 1985 and he was always a right laugh and a bit of a joker. I miss him - we all do.”

Mr Salt started DJing in 1976, working across the north west and was a veteran at popular haunts in Barrow’s Cornwallis Street.

The date of the fundraiser on March 1 was chosen to sit between the Mr Salt’s birthday and the first anniversary of his death. The details of the next fundraiser are yet to be confirmed.
