An avid ninja warrior enthusiast is taking his obstacle abilities overseas as he takes on a mammoth endurance challenge.

Steven Fell, 32, from Bootle, is competing in the Barbados Ninja Throwdown this May, with hopes to qualify for the upcoming world championships in 2020.

Mr Fell has been interested in obstacle-course training since he was 21, quickly developing from one of his part-time hobbies to a competitive sport.

He said: "I was just involved in a local club in my younger days then started taking it seriously and properly training a few years later.

"I originally did obstacle racing for a laugh and didn't really take it too seriously.

"I then started going to Muncaster Park in the Race the Tide event against 200 other people and then started racing all over the county."

Mr Fell reached a peak in his obstacle course career when he was chosen to appear on the hit ITV show Ninja Warrior UK.

He said: "After seeing the first season of Ninja Warrior, I applied alongside 25,000 others.

"I applied and got onto the show and when I got there, it was a big experience.

"I'm just a lad from the west coast of Cumbria and the nerves got the better of me.

"From then on it's been a learning experience, people still ask me about it today."

Following his brief stint of television fame, Mr Fell went on to win competitions across Australia and the United Kingdom.

His next endurance challenge will be the the Ninja Throwdown competition in Barbados.

Mr Fell said: "I'm going to be the only competitor from Cumbria and North Lancashire.

"We're currently looking for more people to compete so if anyone's interested they should get in touch with me and give this a try.

"Fundamentally, the event is about strength training and endurance, it's a lot more complicated than people think."

Mr Fell also uses his physically-testing challenges as a way to raise money for charities, including Cancer Research UK.
