A HOMEOWNER has issued a warning after a mysterious intruder was found in two Barrow homes.

Investigations are underway by police after a burglar was spotted in one home in Granville Street and in another on Holker Street on Thursday.

Although it is not yet known whether or not these incidents are connected residents have expressed concern about their similarity.

The first incident took place between 7.30pm and 8pm when a man was spotted in a house on Holker Street. As soon as he was spotted he then vacated the property.

The second incident took place at 9pm when another intruder was found at a home in Granville Street and after entering through the porch door the intruder left without entering the main section of the house. Officers are urging anyone with information to contact them.

One resident warned others to ‘keep an eye on your doors’ after a man entered their home asking about ‘fishing and breeding dogs.’

Cumbria Police also offered general advice to prevent burglaries.

A police spokesman said: "Criminals by nature are opportunists and if they can gain access to your home without having to force entry then they will steal from you.

"Locking windows and doors is a simple measure that increases your safety and deters criminals from committing offences.

“We would also appeal to members of the public to report suspicious activity to police as that can often prevent crimes. No matter how insignificant you may feel your information is, it could stop a criminal from stealing from you or somebody else.”

Cllr Dave Pidduck, leader of Barrow Council said: “Residents need to remain vigilant of anyone acting suspiciously.

“The borough remains a very close community and some residents can tend to leave their doors unlocked when they go to see their neighbours.

"People just need to be very careful and take precaution to protect themselves and their property.”
