TV personality Michael Platt Winstanley fronted the long-running Granada show This is Your Right and is shown unveiling a plaque in Barrow.

In November 1987 he opened the new £1m Barrow Council Welfare Benefits Centre at the Cornmill Sidings.

He had spent 18 years trying to untangle red tape and fight against officialdom for people living in the north west.

The TV presenter lived at Dunnerdale, near Broughton and died in July 1993.

In January 1976 he was created Baron of Urmston, in Greater Manchester.

Lord Winstanley had been MP for Cheadle and then Hazel Grove between 1966 and 1974.

His niece is the journalist and newsreader Anna Ford.
