A CHARITY that gifts weddings to people with terminal or a life-shortening illness is currently appealing for help to fulfill the dreams of a young Barrow woman suffering from cancer.

Gift of a Wedding is a national charity and is currently planning the wedding of a young Barrow woman battling cancer which is due to take place on Thursday April 18.

The organisation supports around 50 couples in the year whose partners often have only three to six months to live.

So far they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received for the Barrow woman but are still on the hunt for a wedding car, candy cart, master of ceremonies/toastmaster and a florist.

Patricia Harrison, Gift of a Wedding Founder and Chair, said: "We are hoping to get the final pieces together for a very special young lady and we have been extremely overwhelmed by the support we have received so far.

"Many people think what we do is upsetting but in fact it is the absolute opposite.

"For many people suffering with these illnesses everything is out of control and so by having a wedding it can really help to give them something positive to focus on.

"All they want to do is look into each others eyes and say how much they mean to each other.

"We know it's an honour for us to do this for them and so we want to give them the wedding of their dreams."

She also mentioned how much it means to each couple and how for many other friends and family it is also a chance for everyone to get together in a positive way as for some it may be the last chance they get to see them.

She also said how each celebration is a positive fun time at what is a very difficult time for them and all their family.

If you would like to support the Barrow couple by either providing services for the wedding or by donating to the organisation you can contact them at enquiries@giftofawedding.org or by calling 0161 338 8000.
