A TOWN’S first and only strictly vegan B&B has opened its doors to the public after widespread demand.

Little Sansook, a vegan bed and breakfast based at Upper Brook Street in Ulverston, was set up by keen environmentalists Dan Miller and Kelsey Peters.

The pair felt inspired to set up a plant-based accommodation in South Cumbria after noticing a gap in the market for vegan hotels during their world travels.

Mr Miller, who previously worked as an English teacher in Vietnam, saw a demand for vegan cuisine in Ulverston.

He said: “Me and my girlfriend have both travelled a lot and stayed in different spots around the world and discovered that it can be quite difficult to find somewhere vegan to eat.

“We moved to Ulverston at the start of this year and absolutely fell in love with the place.

“It has a decent vegan set up already but we thought it would be the ideal place for a plant-based B&B.

“We saw a demand for it on a small-scale, there’s a growing vegan population here and at least now there’s an option for them.”

As well as this, the B&B is also intent on reducing its carbon footprint.

Mr Miller said: “We take our own containers to refill shops like Cut the Wrap and our own bags to the local fruit and veg market to buy the ingredients used for breakfast.

“We bake our own bread, and make our own peanut butter and jam, for better flavour, and also to avoid plastic packaging.”

Little Sansook offers a plant-based breakfast including homemade muesli with locally sourced soya milk followed by a 100 per cent vegan-style Snickers bar.

Mr Miller said the response to the B&B had been ‘really supportive’.

“So far we’ve accommodated for a wide mixture of people who have all shown a lot of interest in the B&B," he said.

“We have long-term plans to expand what we do in terms of meals.

“We really love Ulverston and feel this is the perfect place to start all this.”
