WHENYOUNG, Ireland’s breakout indie band, are tuning up for an intimate, one of a kind gig at Barrow Library.

The Limerick born trio, made up of vocalist and bassist, Aoife Power, guitarist, Niall Burns and drummer, Andrew Flood, have had a star-studded rise since the release of their first singles in 2017. With only two tracks put out, the band were sought after and invited by Shane McGowan to play at his 60th birthday party in Dublin in January 2018 alongside Sinead O’Connor, Nick Cave and Bono, after the Pogues frontman heard their cover of Fairytale Of New York. Whenyoung can also count The Maccabees’ Felix White as a fan: apparently another of their musical heroes. The band’s 2018 single, Pretty Pure caught White’s attention and was released on his own label, Yala! Records.

The band’s first EP, Given Up, released in 2018, is regarded as an indie-pop gem, set apart by its irresistible combination of unique, spiky vocals and propulsive indie pop. While showcasing the band’s new material, whenyoung also pay homage to another Limerick band, The Cranberries, led by the late Dolores O’Riordan, with their take on Dreams. On top of releasing a number of singles and a full EP, whenyoung packed 2018 with a hectic touring schedule, supporting The Vaccines in spring, playing 20 shows in May alone, a festival packed summer and topping off the year with their largest nationwide tour to date as support for Blossoms.

On Wednesday, April 3, ones to watch whenyoung turn out at Barrow Library in collaboration with Get It Loud In Libraries.

The show sees the band following in the illustrious footsteps of The Vaccines and Blossoms, both of whom have teamed up with Get It Loud In Libraries in recent years.

By all accounts, 2019 looks set to be an even bigger year for the ascending whenyoung trio. While working on their debut album, which is due for a spring release, they’re heading out on a headline tour across the UK and Ireland with several festival appearances pencilled in for summer, including Are You Listening?, Live At Leeds and Handmade.
