AFTER a fire broke out in a bedroom a resident became concerned that someone was inside the property sparking a ‘rapid deployment’ of fire engines from Barrow and Ulverston.
Just after 11am this morning fire crews from Ulverston were called out for a second time to a bedroom fire at a property on Bigland Drive in Ulverston.
One resident was first to notice smoke coming from a bedroom on the top floor of the property prompting concern that someone was inside.
Following this the team from Ulverston called for ‘rapid deployment’ of other fire crews from Barrow to assist.
After a thorough search of the property it was later discovered that no one was inside.
Crew manager Simon Rodger from Ulverston Fire Station said: “The cause of the fire is as of now believed to be as a result of a hair dryer falling from a window sill.
“It is believed that when it fell it was accidentally turned on, burning through the electrical leads and catching fire with the carpet and floorboards.
“We were able to confine the fire to the bedroom.
“I would urge that residents unplug similar devices to prevent such things from occurring.”
