A DAY of activities is being planned to celebrate International Women's Day in York.

The Kyra Women's Project is hosting a day of events at its centre in the Central Methodist Church, St Saviourgate, York, on Friday March 8.

Kyra supports women to help them overcome challenges and make change in their lives.

It offers a range of courses, therapies, life skills and events for women – and many of them will be available on the day for women to try as taster sessions.

Visitors can try their hands at making relaxing treats at the Lush bath bomb workshop, learn how to make rag rugs and take part in sessions on resilience training, mindfulness as well as a drama workshop.

Yvonne Copley, of Kyra, said: "It's to let women have their voice on International Women's Day."

She said the events would run throughout the day from 9.30am to 4.15pm and women could pop in as and when to take part. Refreshments would be available too.

Yvonne said: "When you arrive, volunteers wearing blue lanyards will help you sign up for the activities you want to take part in. There will be a range of stalls offering advice, therapies, activities and other treats all day.

"Rather than charging for tickets for entry we are asking for donations on a pay as you feel basis."

The day will start with introductory speeches from women speakers including Jules Wyman who will talk about how to boost your confidence and build self-belief. Also taking part will be Judith Stoddart, deacon of Central Methodist Church; Lisa Barker, chairperson of Kyra; Verna Campbell, Sheriff of York; Judith Orrell, Lady Mayoress, and Rachael Maskell, York Central MP.
