Ulverston's authentic Mexican restaurant promises to transport customers to the heart of South America with its range of locally-sourced dishes and lively atmosphere.

Since its opening in 1997, Amigos Mexican Restaurant & Steakhouse has become a widely popular venue for discerning locals and curious tourists alike.

Located in the heart of Ulverston's town centre, Amigos, (as it is more commonly known), prides itself on its ethically-sourced produce and welcoming environment, which it most certainly delivers.

Upon arrival, myself and two friends were greeted to smiling staff and stellar customer service which put us immediately at ease.

The stone-walled decor and soft lighting of the restaurant's main entrance, dubbed The Cellar Bar, provided a relaxed atmosphere, complimented by the vibrant South American music.

We were instructed to wait in this area whilst browsing both the food and drinks menu which included a surprising array of choice promised to delight the tastebuds.

From paella to Chimichanga, the extensive menu offered a wide selection of Mexican foods which varied in spices.

Firstly, however, I ordered a not so authentically-Mexican strawberry daiquiri which, admittedly, was one of the finest cocktails I had ever tasted.

An ice-cold fruity refreshment, the drink was completed with an extravagant decoration filled with strawberries and blueberries.

After browsing the menu, we opted for a shared nacho platter followed by chicken fajitas and cinnamon-flavoured churros.

Once ordering, we were instructed to go upstairs where the traditional Mexican atmosphere continued.

The starter arrived very promptly which was traditional tortilla chips covered in cheese with side dips of salsa, guacamole and sour cream.

The flavours were exquisite. The cheese was perfectly melted to produce a creamy texture which complimented the flavoursome side dips.

This guacamole was more sour than I would have preferred, however, this was overpowered by the tangy flavours of the salsa.

The presentation of the main meal was outstanding. The chicken fajitas arrived in a wooden display platter which mirrored that of a buffet.

Included in the platter was sizzling grilled chicken with peppers, onions, paprika and coriander all drenched in a rich creamy sauce.

This was accompanied with a portion of spicy rice and four separate pots of sour cream, salsa, cheese and lettuce.

I filled three warmed tortilla wraps with the delectable ingredients which produced a hot, aromatic flavour igniting the tastebuds.

Pudding consisted of hot cinnamon churros accompanied by chocolate sauce and syrup.

The churros, which were covered in sugar, perfectly blended with the sweet flavours of chocolate and syrup, leaving our whole dining experience on a high.

Overall, Amigos offered an excellent menu with stellar service which was entirely customer-focussed.

I will definitely be returning.
