A KEEN group of Barrow weather watchers were celebrating the opening of their new surveillance centre in 1995.
The Mail, on May 27, noted: "Five pupils from Roose Primary School began raising money for the centre in January to give them more room for their operations.
"Year six students Chris, Jenny, Paula, Matthew and Sarah wrote to Glaxo asking if the company could help.
"Glaxo officials donated a re-fabricated building which arrived on a truck last week.
"Now the pupils plan to spend the money they have raised on new equipment.
"Members of the group are keen meteorologists and spend a lot of time studying the weather in the Barrow area.
"They plan to buy satellite equipment and transmit live pictures to their computers."
Among fundraising efforts by the pupils was a Talent Express show at the school which raised £97.
