A BARROW cafe has been named as the Best Cafe in the area.

The Coffee Bean on Dalton Road has been named the Best Cafe in a competition run by The Mail.

10 cafes were nominated for the award and Mail readers were able to vote for their favourite.

The top 10 included popular spots such as Cafe Ambio and The Orangery Cafe and Gift Shop in Ulverston, Herwicks and The Byre Cafe in Millom as well as The Last Resort Coffee Shop and The Fig Tree in Barrow.

The Coffee Bean received the most votes from Mail Readers and was announced this week as the winner of the Best Cafe competition.

The cafe is owned by Lisa Clark and her partner Ismail Kaya.

The couple were presented with the award by Mail Reporter Michael Thomas.

Speaking after hearing the good news Miss Clark said: "It was amazing to find out we had been named Best Cafe.

"We were very overwhelmed when we first found out.

" We didn't expect it at all.

"We know we have a lot of support from our customers in the town, but it was still a big surprise to find out we had won.

"We would really like to thank everyone for the support they have given us.

"Thank you to everyone who took the time to buy the paper and vote for us.

"Also we want to give an enormous thank you to all of our staff here at The Coffee Bean.

"It is not just just us who have won the award but the cafe as a whole.

"This everyone who works here.

"It is their hard work that and consistency which has helped us win the award and it is what keeps the cafe going so thank you to them as well."

The Coffee Bean is the longest running cafe in Barrow, with a history stretching back more than 20 years.

Miss Clark and Mr Kaya took over the cafe in 2012.

Since then the couple and have built up some great support from Barrow residents who often drop in to the cafe for a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy a range of lunch time meals/ and light bites.
