AN investigation is under way after a woman was allegedly ‘stabbed’ in Barrow on Valentine’s Day.

Police are carrying out an investigation after the woman was allegedly assaulted with what officers described as a “bladed weapon” in Lumley Street.

As part of their investigations a 40-year-old man from Barrow has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 37-year-old woman received minor injuries.

On Friday morning police tape was still at the scene that had previously marked off one end of Lumley Street that meets with Rawlinson Street and one end of the back of Derry Street.

One resident was “shocked” to find the incident taking place near her house and witnessed some form of disagreement before the alleged incident took place.

The resident said there were people she didn’t know arguing in the back street.

Barrow Councillor Alec Proffitt of Central ward said: “Any violence involving weapons is concerning and I hope the police are getting the support they need from the public.

“It is important to remember that Barrow is a relatively safe community, but again this shows the need that the police force are properly supported.

“Prevention is obviously key in such crimes, but it is also important that people understand the consequences of their actions.

“I would like to reassure people that our community is generally safe and if there is anything I or Barrow Borough Council can do to support the community we will endeavour to do so.”

Police have asked anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact police on 101 quoting log number 232 of February 14.
