A MUSIC festival commemorating the life of a much-loved dad is returning to Barrow this year alongside some of the UK’s finest artists.

Fudstock Music Festival 2019 is hitting Cavendish Park on Barrow Island once again this August, returning with an even bigger and better event.

The festival started in 2018 to commemorate the life of beloved Barrovian Richard Thorne AKA Fud.

The event raised a staggering £18,673 for St Mary’s Hospice in its inaugural year, which provided a wonderful level of care for Fud and his family before he died from cancer in April 2018.

Jo Firth, Fud’s sister and part of the organising committee, said: “The quality of care that Fud received from St Mary’s was really excellent, and we wanted to give something back.

“Fudstock 2018 was fantastic with over 1,500 people attending. 2019 would have been Fud’s 40th birthday and we are pulling out all of the stops to make this one phenomenal.

The long-anticipated headline act for Fudstock 2019 has been announced as The Complete Stone Roses.

The Complete Stone Roses are one of the UK’s most well-known, most seen and most successful tribute bands.

Ms Firth added: “Fud was passionate about music, and the Stone Roses were his favourite band so having the Complete Stone Roses closing the night will be a really special moment for everyone.”

Fellow organiser Mal Lingard added: “We’re so proud to announce the UK’s number 1 Stone Roses tribute band, The Complete Stone Roses.

“We’re ecstatic to have such a great addition to our line up playing right here in Barrow after selling out gigs all over the country.”

More announcements are set to follow including local favourites from across Furness and some big names from further afield.

Fudstock 2019 will take place at 12pm on Saturday August 31.

Tickets are on sale now from Skiddle priced at £15 for adults and £8 for children.
