Children from across Furness joined thousands of other children in Manchester for the ‘Young Voices’ children’s choir concert.

Young singers from all over the country have been gathering at Manchester Arena to perform in front of thousands of other children and parents.

All the choirs performed, both individually and as a group.

They even got to perform alongside Tony Hadley, formerly of Spandau Ballet.

This year, children from a number of schools in Furness attended, including Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School, St George’s Primary School, Dalton St Mary’s Primary School.

Mick Cull, head teacher at Ormsgill Nursery and Primary School and Jackie Mayvers, a senior teaching assistant went with the children from Ormsgill Primary.

Mrs Mayvers said: “The event was amazing for the children. The atmosphere on the night was unbelievable.

“Some parents came with us and they were just bowled over by the whole thing.”

Mr Cull added: “We’ve been involved in the event before, this is our first time back for a while and it was fantastic to be involved.”

Laura Thompson, music teacher at St George’s Primary School, in Barrow, said: “The children were in absolute awe when they arrived at the arena.

“A lot of the them had never been in an arena like that before, even some of the parents couldn’t believe what it was like.”

Hanna Croskery, deputy head and performing arts leader at Dalton St Mary’s School, said: “It was a pleasure to take our Performing Arts Choir to the Young Voices concert.

“Being able to sing with over 6,000 other children is an experience they will never forget.

“They loved singing the songs and especially loved singing along with the famous singers who were at the show.”

‘Young Voices’ is a project to inspire young children to find their love for music and for the past 24 years has staged the largest children’s choir concerts in the world.
