It has been a double dose of celebrations for University of Hospital Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT) this week as two of its esteemed staff members receive a prestigious OBE award.

Mrs Bingley was receiving her award for her extensive charity work across the globe, carrying out work for organisations like Mind in Furness, St Johns Hospice Lancaster and Abaseen Foundation UK in Pakistan.

She said: "As a person, the award means so much to be recognised.

"However, the most important thing for the charities is that the award shines the light on the many fantastic causes."

Mrs Bingley was presented the award by HRH Princess Anne who showed great interest in the charity-worker's philanthropy.

"Princess Anne really did make everyone feel special. She thanked me for all my work in the various parts of the world.

"She was so interested in all we're doing as an organisation.

"The most important thing for me is that the charities get the exposure from this and we're already feeling the benefit of that."

Mrs Bingley was accompanied by her daughter, Andrea Ferguson, son-in-law, Mark Ferguson and their six-year-old son, Noah Ferguson.

Sue Smith, Executive Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Executive at UHMBT, was also presented with an OBE at Buckingham Palace.

The award was given for for services to the NHS and patient safety.

Sue is a key member of a team that has overseen the Trust’s dramatic improvement from a rating of inadequate to good.
