Taxidermy: A mounted ram’s head from the workshop of James Kirby, of Market Street, Ulverston
THERE can't be too many homes which have a ram's head with curly horns staring at them from the wall in South Cumbria?
If this is your idea of the ideal home then a Victorian example of taxidermy from Ulverston is being offered in the next sale by Hannam’s Auctioneers of Selborne, Hampshire, from Monday to Wednesday.
The mounted head is from the workshop of James Kirby, of 53 Market Street and has a pre-sale estimate of £150 to £200.
Mounted fish in bow fronted cases, foxes, game birds and stag heads were popular topics for taxidermists in the Victorian era when many Lakeland tourists brought a rod or guns with them.
