THERE was a packed house at the former Canteen arts venue on Barrow Island as The North were crowned winners of the Battle of the Bands competition 10 years ago.
Also being cheered on by music fans were Steamed Clams, Isolhate and Atlas.
The Mail, on January 30 in 2009, noted: “The North’s winning performance contrasted with the entertaining antics of hardcore metal group Isolhate.”
A trophy went to the winning finalist in The Mail-sponsored contest as part of a £2,500 package, including a professional music video.
As they accepted the trophy, The North said: “It doesn’t matter who won, everybody was brilliant. All four bands deserve to be here and everybody had a really good time.”
Judges included Mooncats singer Ian Curwen and Bernie Reid from Interceptor 6.
