A MOUNTAIN rescue team have been called out twice in the last few days after residents have become stuck in their cars in snow.

The most recent incident happened yesterday when the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team were called out at around 1pm to assist two males who had become stuck on Corney Fell, which had been closed to traffic for two days. Both were uninjured.

14 members of the team were then called out again on Friday (Jan 18) at around 10pm to assist a group of 12 young people who found themselves stuck in thick snow near a steep descent on the track leading to Devoke Water.

Cumbria Police and a local farmer were also involved in the rescue and there were no injuries.

A spokesperson from the team said: "I urge all motorists to be aware of changing conditions at this time of year both during the day and especially at night.

"Check the forecasts and note which way the wind is blowing from and if it is snow bearing, avoid the windward side.

"Always make sure you carry water to drink and a supply of food in case to become stuck. Carry blankets to keep warm and a shovel too to help you get out of the snow.

"Make sure your phone is charged and that you have plenty of fuel so you can use the engine, carefully, to keep warm."
