A COLLEGE hosted a 'Brew Monday' yesterday in memory of a former student found dead two days after Christmas.

Jake Davies was studying towards a higher apprenticeship at Furness College having achieved three A Levels during his two years at Barrow Sixth Form.

Jake, who lived in Askam, was found dead near Ulpha on the morning of December 27.

Along with his friends, Noah Johnson and Dan Milmine, 18-year-old Jake was part of band The Liars Club. After his death Jake’s bandmates urged men to seek help with mental health issues.

Yesterday is thought to be the most depressing day of the calendar, earning the gloomy title ‘Blue Monday’.

The date generally falls on the third Monday in January, owing its name to post-Christmas sadness, bleak weather conditions and unpaid credit card bills.

However, organisations across Barrow pledged to overlook January’s most depressing day of the year through arranging a range of events aimed to improve mental health.

Barrow Sixth Form College teamed up with charity Samaritans to host a ‘Brew Monday’ where students could chat over a cup of tea with caring professionals.

The event also raised £464.33 for mental health charity, Mind in Furness. Organisers provided a selection of home-made cakes and refreshments for students to enjoy for a small donation.
