ONE of the directors of Five (UK) Ltd which owns the Derby and The Knights in Barrow has spoken out for the first time about the closure of the venues.

Jon Wheeler, who is one of five directors of the company, confirmed that both the Derby, in Dalton Road, and The Knights, in Dalkeith Street, were closed.

However, the company has not been placed into liquidation with official records at both Companies House and the London Gazette confirming the company is still active.

Five (UK) Ltd has owned or managed a number of venues in Barrow, including Bar 5/The Nines and Circus Circus.

The firm ended its lease with Circus Circus around seven years ago following failed rent negotiations with the building's owner Furness Building Society.

Bar 5 was sold to Simon Crompton in 2017. Mr Wheeler, and his wife Jill, separately own The Crofters.
