1. Furness Abbey: Furness Abbey provides a fun day out for history lovers. Families can enjoy walking around the grounds of the 12th century estate. They can also visit the education centre and an extensive exhibition about the history of the Abbey.

2. Grizedale Forest: Grizedale has a host of activities for people of all ages. There are various walks and cycle tracks throughout the forest, as well as a number of Go Ape tree top adventure courses and zip lines.

3. Piel Island: This small island is based just off the coast of Furness peninsula. Visitors can access it by ferry or an organised walk when the tide is low. Once there, you can enjoy walking around the island taking in the lovely views or visit Piel Castle.

4.Dock Museum: A great day out for anyone wanting to learn about the history of Barrow. The Dock Museum hosts the Vickers photograph archive as well as a variety of pieces telling the history of Barrow’s shipyard.

9. Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway: A great family day out, the ride starts in Eskdale and travels across the estuary, through the hills, seven miles up the line to Boot Station in Dalegarth. Visitors can also spend time in the Ravenglass Railway Museum, learning about the construction of the railway in the 1870s and its story up to the present day.
