NOW in its fourth year, once again Farfield Mill is the only UK venue hosting the highly rated International Textile touring exhibition, which features 38 pieces of work by textile artists from across the world.

Running until February 27, the striking and thought-provoking exhibition has universal appeal. While experienced stitchers and textile students will appreciate the skill involved in creating each item, the display gracing the Sedbergh arts and heritage centre's two main galleries, provides a visual feast with patch working, hand and machine quilting, embroidery, applique, painting, and a variety of hand-stitching. This year’s theme Through the Seasons has been interpreted by each artist in a different way, with works focusing on one season, changing seasons and even the seasons of human lives, represented through realism or abstract colour and form. The Best of Show winning piece La neige és si pure, comme le regard de l'enfance (pictured) by Spanish textile artist Montserrat Forcadell is a simply stunning piece. She says that living in a place where it never snows she find snow fascinating and beautiful: "We always long for what we do not have." All the pieces in the exhibition were originally entered into a textile competition held in the prestigious annual Carrefour du Patchwork Meeting, which is hosted each September in Alsace, France, close to the birthplace of the Amish people who are renowned for their stunning patchwork quilts.
