A WOMAN has thanked everyone who donated to her appeal to help the homeless.

Hayley Beddoes, who is originally from Birmingham but lives in Millom, posted an appeal over Christmas for donations to support her sister's efforts to help people sleeping rough in Birmingham.

She has now posted photos of her mother, Linda DeCadenet and sister, Tina Clark, delivering specially made hampers to homeless people in the city.

Speaking to The Mail about the work her and her family have been doing, she said: “Thank you.

“Since the first appeal we have continued to to accept donations.

“I went down to Birmingham to deliver to the donations on December 27.

“My mother and sister then sorted through the donations and put together care packages for men and women, as well as some for dogs.

“Then once all the packages were finished, they went out to deliver them last weekend.

“As they went round delivering the packages, they spoke to some of the homeless people in Birmingham to find out what kind of things they really needed."

She added: "People said they needed things like boxer shorts and sanitary wear, as well as hats and gloves.

“Some people also asked for trainers as most of their shoes are totally worn down.

“The plan is to go out again next weekend and deliver the clothes people have donated."

She went on to talk about listening to the stories of those sleeping rough. She said: “One man said he used to have his own business. It just goes to show this kind of thing can happen to anyone.”

When asked about the number of donations, she said: “People have been very generous, one woman went out and bought a large amount of clothes just for the appeal.

“I hope people can continue to donate and we can help many more homeless people.”
