ULVERSTON Town Council is launching is it’s shop front improvement scheme grant for 2019.

The scheme, which has been running for several years, is designed to help local businesses in the town improve their shop.

Each year up to a dozen businesses are helped to improve the appearance of their building through painting, replacement windows and signage.

Last year TP Framework, based on King Street, was a recipient of the grant.

Fay Powley, who runs TP Framework with her husband, said the scheme is vital for local shops.

She said: “The grant was good for us because we have the shop front painted and we had a new floor put down - without the grant we could not have done this.

“It is a great way to improve all the shops in the town and it helps the centre of Ulverston look attractive, which will invite more customers.

Town Mayor Cllr David Webster said: “We would encourage all businesses in Ulverston’s conservation area to apply for this grant, especially those who have not been in receipt of a grant previously.

“Tenants and landlords can apply.

“It’s great that nearly all Ulverston’s shop units are full and the town council would like to support businesses in keeping their shop frontages looking attractive.”

Applications need to be submitted by the end of March.
