As part of Junior Mail, five of our young musicians were also given the chance to become junior journalists.

They had the opportunity to write their own articles about Ukulele club, what it was like learning to play the instrument and how they felt being able to perform at St Bernards’ summer show 2018.

Maddison Williams, year seven, wrote:

“I have been a member of the Ukulele club since it started last term.

“I have found learning the Ukulele really easy because I used to play string instruments at primary school.

“I really enjoy the Ukulele club as I love listening and learning about new musical styles. I also enjoy socialising with different members of the school who are not in my social group. It was a lovely experience to perform in the Christmas show filling everyone with joy after a long 8 week term.”

Christina Gawne, year seven, wrote:

“I joined the club the first week it started.

“I found learning the Ukulele ok because I used to play it before the club started.

“I used to play the cornet, tenor horn, trumpet and the recorder.

“ I enjoy the club as it is a great way to have fun whilst learning with your friends.

“Performing at the Christmas show was amazing as we got to stand up and perform everything we love.”
