ASPIRING young filmmakers can get in on the action at Signal through its innovative new Get Digital programme.

The forward-thinking, award-winning Barrow film and media outfit, is offering free filmmaking opportunities for ages 16-19 via its Get Digital programme, an intensive and innovative programme of activities running at Barrow from January until March.

The programme includes hands-on film skills sessions and speakers, one-to-one mentoring; the chance to devise and make dramatic and documentary short films and a great chance to complete an accredited qualification.

Kicking off the programme will be the opportunity to create a short film shoot about hate crime over a three-day session running from January 16-19, as part of an independent project funded by the Cumbria Police Crime Commissioner Community Fund. Those interested need to be available for sessions on Wednesday and Thursday (January 16-17) from 5.30pm-8pm and for the full day on Saturday, January 19.

The main Get Digital course will then run weekly on Tuesday evenings at Cooke’s Studios on Abbey Road (next to The Duke of Edinburgh) from 5.30pm on January 22, with an additional full three-day film shoot during February half term.

More activities in the programme will be confirmed in spring.
