A TRADITIONAL barn beside a Lake District hotel may be converted into staff lodgings.

The 1800s bank barn at the Newby Bridge Hotel, off the A590, has fallen into disrepair, according to plans submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority.

Applicant Lakeside Inns Ltd is proposing to create a pair of two-bedroom dwellings for managerial staff and their families. Seven small flats with shared shower rooms and kitchen space would accommodate more junior members of the team.

Static caravans that have housed hotel workers will be removed from the grounds, state the planning documents, which add: "Good quality and happy staff are essential to provide a good-quality experience to hotel clientele."

Staveley-in-Cartmel Parish Council said it has no objections to the plan.
