THE Princess Royal is due to visit Barrow tomorrow, January 17, and to mark the event we are taking a nostalgic look at two of her previous visits — to a Charity base and to launch a warship.
Part of her visit to Furness in April 1988 included a tour of the Save The Children charity shop, in Cavendish Street.
She was greeted by 12-year-old Emma Neale, of Urswick, and presented with a bouquet.
Another youngster who got to meet her was 11-year-old Lisa Sharp, who gave the Princess a posy of orchids and roses.
Other events in her busy schedule included launching the submarine Talent.
The Princess was back at the BAE yard on Friday, March 9, in 2001 to launch the £250m amphibious assault ship Albion.
It was the first launch of a Royal Navy warship at Barrow for 21 years.
