BATTLING mums were celebrating in 1994 at news that Dalton was in line for a second nursery within 12 months.
The Mail, on July 27, noted there had been a dedicated campaign to push for more pre-school places in the town.
It said: "Now the governors of Dalton's CE primary school have announced plans to apply to the Secretary of State for Education Gillian Shepherd for permission to nursery at St Mary's, in Coronation Drive."
The news was welcomed by the Dalton Nursery Association.
The town's only nursery was at Chapel Street Infant School but there had been 40 more applications that places available.
