THERE was plenty of organised fun on offer for Ulverston youngsters 24 years ago as they played and picked up new skills during the school holidays.
The Mail, on Wednesday, August 10 in 1994, noted: "Youngsters in Ulverston have been having a whale of a time during the summer holidays, taking part in the annual Dale Street Playscheme for children aged between five and 11.
"Under the guidance of volunteer organisers Lynn Elliott and Dawn Wright, from Ulverston, and Catherine Carr, from Kirkby, they have been enjoying a range of activities, including aerobics, tie dyeing, outdoor sports, a juggling workshops and a tuck shop, as well as picking up football and cricket skills."
The scheme was in its fourth year, with the help of a £650 grant.
